7.1.4 Multiplying and Dividing Integers

Quizzes from yesterday were returned to students.  Any student who is unhappy with their grade has the option to retake the quiz.  They must come to me and ask for a practice worksheet that they must complete to be eligible to retake the quiz.

In class today we multiplied and divided integers.  Below is a link to today's PowerPoint lesson:

7.1.2-3 Quiz - Adding and Subtracting Integers

We took a quiz today on adding and subtracting integers.  We have spent the last 4 classes on it so I am expecting every student to do well.  There is no homework tonight.

7.1.3 Subtracting Integers

Today we worked on subtracting integers.  Students learned that every subtraction problem can be turned into an addition problem.  We do this by adding the opposite.  For example, we can turn
-3 - 7 into -3 + (-7).  Below is a link to the homework:

7.1.2 Adding Integers

On Friday we did an activity on adding and subtracting negative numbers and the overall performance of the class was below what I expected,  So we started at the beginning today and focused on adding negative numbers.  We went over all of the different scenarios that can present themselves when adding negative numbers.  We then worked through a many example problems as a class.

Expectations and Binders

Today we went over the expectations for a middle school math class.  We then put our binders together.    We labeled the dividers with the following categories: bell work, vocabulary, notes, homework, quizzes, and tests.  Then we worked on mental math by completing some 24 cards.

Introduction

Today we got to know each other.  I told students about myself and began the process of learning their names.  I introduced students to this website and showed them how to answer the problem of the day.  Today's homework is for students to take home the Million Words "assignment."  I would like parents to tell me about their child in a million words or less.  Also, students need to bring their binder, tabs/dividers, and loose leaf paper to class tomorrow as we will be setting up our binders.  Below is a link to the Million Words assignment:
